great page on firefox

I broke down and installed firefox 3 today. I usually (last few years) wait until a few point releases come out, but I liked some of the new functionality (awesome bar is awesome!!!!) and the memory usage seemed to be a lot less. I asked a friend who just switched (after having her ubuntu computer lock up a ton before firefox did somthing about that huge bug) if it was working ok, then took the plunge. Good stuff :) Didn't really make my day off, but wow what a great update :)

Was posdef worth it. Not only do pages load faster, but yes memory usage is way down. Everything is more responsive, even within the scope of like scrolling down and refreshing. I have to say Firefox 3 is full of freaking win.

That being said Opera 9.5 is pretty damn awesome and if Opera and Mozilla Firefox weren't so awesome I'd love to use Konqueror as my browser.

Anyways, I found this article on some easy ways to change your firefox, and it contains like 3-4 changes I implemented and already like a lot. I have had that stylish extention installed for awhile, so this page full of no brainers, and some things that I feel aren't neccessary. The comments are full of good stuff too. (bottom of post)

My switch to firefox 3 was pretty smooth. I had backed up my entire .mozilla dir beforehand, but it was just a matter of firing up firefox 3, letting it sort out extention incompatabilities (like 25) and trying to fix some (like 4) (but the other 21 are stuff that aren't a big deal). Then it loaded up, and I had to check the help/about box to make sure I was running firefox 3...looked exactly the same. Pretty damn solid. I'll delete my backup in a couple of days, I'm pretty sure. The utter improvements in interface speed are going to make it hard to go back to firefox 2, not to mention the sheer speed increases in page loading...and memory usage seems to be way down.
